Infant Care & Transitional Nursery is Cricket Hunt School’s full time licensed child care program, open year-round. This program provides a nurturing, relaxed, home-like environment. We welcome infants and children ages six weeks-36 months (see Transitional Nursery I and II) and will gladly give preference to siblings who may need care outside of their regular preschool day.
Infant Care (starting at age 6 weeks) provides small group sizes, low child to teacher ratios, a high level of teacher training, and a nesting of supportive adult relationships.Teachers of this classroom focus on establishing strong relationships with infants and families, helping our young ones develop a sense of trust, understanding that their feelings and needs are important, and a feeling that the world is safe and predictable. The daily schedule for this class includes four-five hours of play, as recommended by NAEYC’s Early Childhood Standards, which gives plenty of time for learning through exploration, building a sense of identity, and interacting with others.
Transitional Nursery I Class, the next step for young ones who are ready to move on from infant care, also provides small group sizes, low child to teacher ratios, a high level of teacher training, and a nesting of supportive adult relationships. This class provides children with meaningful, positive day-to-day experiences as they become more mobile and begin interacting more with their peers. The daily schedule for this class also includes four-five hours of play, as recommended by NAEYC’s Early Childhood Standards, which gives plenty of time for learning through exploration, building a sense of identity, and interacting with others.
Transitional Nursery II Class Each child transitions differently, and we use the tools and techniques of our developmental philosophy to allow toddlers to move smoothly into the Transitional Nursery II class when they are ready. This next level focuses on establishing pathways for advanced learning and identifying individual strengths. We maintain low staff ratios in an engaging atmosphere. A developmental curriculum is used to help your child reach appropriate developmental milestones. Your child will interact with peers in a language rich environment. Outside play, music and large motor activities are a regular part of your young child’s day.
Nursery School Program
Nursery School is designed primarily as a young child’s first introduction to a preschool classroom. Nursery is a multi-age classroom for 3 & 4 year-olds who are ready to participate in a teacher-led, age appropriate environment. This theme-based program provides young learners with a balance of structured activities and time to explore their own child initiated projects and interests. Foreign language, art and music are also introduced to children in this program. The Nursery School schedule is offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or on Tuesday and Thursday. Half day (morning) options are available, or extended (full) days may be added to this option. Each full day in Nursery School will focus on a particular project or theme; Music and Movement, French and Art, Science Experimentation and Cooking activities.
Pre-Kindergarten is our second stage of preschool; the year prior to an official Kindergarten placement. Our Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program incorporates a developmentally based curriculum with a distinct balance of teacher directed activities and student choice. In addition to being developmentally based, the Pre-Kindergarten curriculum is thematically organized and includes opportunities to explore art, music and Foreign language instruction. Pre-literacy skills are introduced as well as foundations for mathematical concepts. Science and social science concepts are woven into the thematic studies. Cricket Hunt School’s Pre-Kindergarten program is a rich, well-rounded educational experience. Our full day Pre-K program is available on a three-day schedule (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) or five day schedule (Monday-Friday).
*Please note, any child planning to enroll in our preschool programs must be FULLY potty trained and independent in all aspects of toileting care.
Experiential Kindergarten Program
Experiential Kindergarten (EK) is our “bridge” class between Preschool and our Full Day, multiage K-2 program. EK is designed for the Kindergarten “age” child who may need a bit more time to grow into themselves. As with our other programs, EK is a developmental class, interactive and thematically based with plenty of opportunities for “hands-on” or experiential learning. Literacy, science and mathematics are strong components of this classroom allowing each child to work at his or her respective developmental levels while continuing to grow toward the demands of a more challenging academic program. Our EK program is housed in the Elementary School building with our K-2 classes.
Kindergarten – Grade 2
Kindergarten through Grade 2 (K-2) at Cricket Hunt School is a multi-aged program. Our developmental philosophy lends itself well to the combination of grades allowing children to work and grow at a pace that is appropriate. Multiage programming gives students a chance to showcase their academic strengths and work on those areas of challenge in a non-threatening, educational environment. All students, older and younger learn from each other and responsibility, respect and group participation are essential components of our daily learning. The number of multiage classes at the elementary level is based on yearly enrollment.
